Silicone Nose Pads
Silicone nose pads are probably the softest material nose pads available!  These nose pads are made up of silicon microns that are into what we know as nose pads for our eyewear by molds specific to a certain shape and size.

Silicone nose pads are also considered to be one of the few nose pad materials that are hypoallergenic, or non indusive of causing allergies to the exposed skin area.  Although this may be true to about 98% of all people,  there are those in fact that do have a latex or silicone allergy.

Since there are a minute population  who indeed have this allergy, (which may consist of 1 out of a 1000 people),  most nose pad manufacturers tend to use this material as there main industry.  For its soft texture and grip, the silicone nose pads seem to be the popular choice for most doctors offices and opticians.  For that reason there is a larger selection of style, shape and mounting ability associated with the silicone material.
Is silicone really Hypo-allergenic?
This poses an interesting question and for the majority of the public, it is considered a Hypo-allergenic material.  Yet, in all reality, there is a small percentage of the population who have a silicone/latex allergy.  Therefore, would we really call this a non-allergenic material?  Completely non-allergenic, No!  hypo-allergenic for those allergic to polycarbonates and plastics, Yes!

Assymmetrical or Symmetrical?
Many people are plagued by the indecision of replacing their current nose pads with either Assymmetrical ( "D" shaped) or Symmetrical (Oval or Teardrop shaped) Nose pads.  We often think that we need to use our eyeglass frames as a reference to what we need to replace.  The fact is the only difference between the two are the shapes.  They both work the same way, mount the same way, and are available in the same materials(In most cases).  The most important factor is that the proper mount be chosen when replacing the nose pads.  Example:  Screw-in, Snap-in, etc..
